Encounters

The Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild is pleased to present Encounters, an anthology of Australian Speculative Fiction, edited by Maxine McArthur and Donna Maree Hanson.

The anthology, showcasing the work of 22 new, emerging, and established Australian speculative fiction writers, was launched at the National Museum of Australia on August 14, 2004 by Garth Nix, New York Times best-selling author of Abhorsen..

Garth said, "With everything from vampire flatmates to android love, Encounters offers a fine mix of stories from both well-known names and exciting newcomers."

"The previous CSFG anthologies have proved to be great vehicles for new authors to show their talent and Encounters will certainly launch some new careers and uphold the reputations of the established contributors. Around the world, small presses and group publishing ventures not only provide authors with essential opportunities to get into print but also often find and nurture important new writers; the CSFG certainly does this, and I hope they continue to do so in many more anthologies."

CSFG Publishing's previous collection, Nor of Human, edited by Geoff Maloney, was short listed for four Aurealis Awards and the Machinations anthology, edited by Chris Andrews and short listed for a Ditmar Award. Elsewhere edited by Michael Barry had one story short listed for an Aurealis Award and had several nominations for Ditmars.
